PaxLair Meeting about #LBSotA Held – Ideas for Interacting are Shaping Up

Skara Brae Community Center, Trammel, Chesapeake (PaxLair Times) – April 9, 2013 – by Winfield – Governor Winfield led a discussion about Shroud of the Avatar (SotA) after the weekly Tuesday PaxLair meeting.  About 20 people participated.  Winfield outlined a few key points and add more here in this article:

  • PaxLair is united to work on many ideas for SotA and also with many people in the communities near and far.
  • PaxLair is not leaving Ultima Online and will maintain the PaxLair Statehood, Cities, and Alliance for many years to come.
  • Governor Winfield is the PaxLair leader when needing to officially work with the SotA Design Team.  He has made contact with FireLotus at SotA.
  • The SotA Pledging system is still open and people can pledge to be involved with developers and the alpha/beta and housing opportunities.
  • People of PaxLair can freely contribute to any and all aspects of SotA as they desire, of course.  They are encouraged to be creative, inquisitive, and get engaged.  Committing PaxLair as a community/town with SotA needs to go through Governor Winfield.
  • Everyone can easily work with PaxLair regarding player town ideas and more.  Discussions can be done on the PaxLair Forums, on SotA Forums, and any other method or location to brainstorm and collaborate.
  • PaxLair invites people to join UO (trial accounts in UO exist) over the coming weeks and months to get involved in discussions and even demonstrations of events, theatrical plays, tournaments, games, court trials, and more.  Demonstrating ideas is a great way to explain ideas.
  • PaxLair will work with other communities to brainstorm SotA ideas and compare notes.
  • PaxLair will establish some information hubs and communications methods to support ideas for SotA as needed.
  • PaxLair will meet weekly to discuss SotA and be on the Twitter @PaxLair and Facebook feeds.  Everyone is invited to attend.
  • Future meetings will soon start getting into specific areas of interest, like combat, commerce, theater, banking, crafting, defense, etc.

Shroud of the Avatar Pledging Grace Period until April 14 – You Can Still Pledge and Join!!

SotA at Kickstarter, the Ether (PaxLair Times) – April 9, 2013 – by Winfield – The Kickstarter Pledge Campaign for Shroud of the Avatar ended last Sunday, April 7, 2012 with combined pledges of more than $2.03M through Kickstarter and the SotA web site.  TO OUR BENEFIT, SotA has extended the same Kickstarter tier rewards until April 14, 2013.  That means, everyone can still join SotA with those same great rewards.  So if you had trouble with Kickstarter pledging or still want to get in on the ground floor with great rewards, you have not missed it!

PaxLair will be working with SotA designers and community leaders and we plan to be in design discussions, the alpha, and the beta.  We are not leaving Ultima Online … we are expanding interests and opportunities for our Player Statehood, Cities, citizens, guilds, and allies.

Joining PaxLair in Shroud of the Avatar

PaxLair, The Ether (PaxLair Times) – April 8, 2013 – by Ashlynn – The Shroud of the Avatar kickstarter has been a great success, even more than I expected (but I am a pessimistic person!). Congratulations to the SotA team for that! Although that means Mr Hickman now needs to write a novel. That’s a lot of work! I know first hand!

But don’t worry, I’ll read it!

I also get my hands on an Akalabeth adventure module which I am excited about. I think I might even try to run it!

PaxLair in Shroud of the Avatar

Being an Ultima Online community past and present (I am am something of a newcomer myself) we have had a large number of adored members. Perhaps some of them have been watching the Kickstarter and even this “blog”, the PaxLair Times.

Of late most people read the Times and do not read our forums. I assume because it is more convenient and I direct lots of abuse at goblins which is always entertaining. Clearly a draw for our readers.

We would like to get in touch with anyone who wants to help create a community in SotA, both past members of PaxLair and present. Governor Winfield would love to hear from you and know if you will aid him in creating a second PaxLair community. And you can get in touch!

If anyone wants to help us create a PaxLair community in SotA, they should get in touch. We already have a sizable number of… expeditionaries who have already pledged. But we would love to hear from long-lost members of PaxLair and any new folk who wish to aid us in our endeavour.

PaxLair has always been about forging friendships and forging stories together. It is what attracted me to the community and I have never felt more at home. We welcome anyone who wants to help us create more stories.

Also I should emphasize, PaxLair is not leaving UO. It will always be present. But I believe a cross-game community will benefit us all! And we hold weekly meetings every tuesday at 9pm EST!

SotA Reaches $2 M Pledges! Plans to add “Town Type” Structures!

PaxLair, in the Ether (PaxLair Times) – April 7, 2013– by Winfield – With only 29 minutes remaining in a 1-month Kickstarter campaign, Portalarium’s Shroud of the Avatar project reached $2 million (US) in pledges from the public backing the project.  This is DOUBLE their planned goal of $1 M.  Congratulations!!! More than 600 people were watching the LIVE video feed from Portalarium HQs in Austin, TX where Richard Garriott (Lord British) and his team stayed up all night reaching out to players and interested people throughout the world.

Several PaxLair citizens and allies are backing the project at various levels up through the Lord of the Manor level, a level that offers a City Castle and Keeps on a large Island.

Portalarium defined “stretch goals” for reaching pledge levels beyond the originally sought $1 M.  At $2 M, they will attempt to add the following to the SotA game:

$2M: Players Take over the World!!!

  •     Castles & Keeps effectively a new “Town Type”, where the structure is ownable by players or guilds
  •     Guilds can declare war against other guilds
  •     Guilds can declare as full time PVP
  •     Guilds can earn a guild house and guild bank
  •     Guild Tabbard/Shield/Flags useable by all members
  •     Minimum of 5 castle types added to the game
  •     Castle merchants with unique merchandise
  •     Castle defense scenarios for most castles which can be played offline as well as online

Shroud of the Avatar (SotA) Pledging for a few more Hours

PaxLair, in the Ether (PaxLair Times) – April 6, 2013– by Winfield – PaxLair will be involved in SotA ( http://www.shroudoftheavatar.com ) as a community of people with ideas.  Several PaxLair Citizens and Allies have “pledged” with SotA through their Kickstarter Project thus enabling us to be involved in the Alpha, Beta, and even some of the design discussions and ideas.  Some of us even have some housing deeds or plots at the village to city levels.  Thus, we can experiment with housing, culture, group adventures and contests, and of course role-playing quests and lore.

Realm News – Volume 3, Issue 6

The PaxLair Press, Chesapeake (PaxLair Times) – April 1, 2013 – by Ashlynn – This coming month sees sweeping changes across the face of our dear kingdom with familiar faces holding new positions of power, economic upheaval in the vegetable sector, and strange new laws passed by the Royal Council.

So how will it affect the average citizen? Well I’m sure you’ll find out!

OZOG CROWNED KING OF BRITANNIA

20130401ozogkingLittle has been heard of Blackthorn for quite some time – a situation which has been a cause for ever increasing concern as the weeks have gone by. But it has now been revealed that just over a week ago, our former king died after choking on a chicken bone in the dining room of his new castle.

The Royal Council has since spent considerable effort finding an heir without success. Deciding to widen their search, the council’s gaze came to rest upon Pitmuck Island and the pungent leader of the goblin tribe there.

Seeing what they believed to be excellent leadership skills, the council in their drunken wisdom decided to offer the crown to Ozog who immediately accepted it, and a low-key coronation was held a few days ago.

It is believed that the new king will make his first speech in the next week or so.

Easter Bunny Found Dead on Road to Yew

On it’s way to leave the gift of coloured eggs and other beloved trinkets to the children of our wonderful realm, the easter bunny was accosted by bandits along the Britain-Yew road a few days ago.

It seems the murderous mob had heard word of the bunny’s journey and lay in wait for the festive furry creature. Clues at the scene of the crime suggest the bunny tried to hide, exerting considerable effort in evading the bandits, but was eventually cut down by blade and spell. Royal Investigators believe the bunny made it only a few yards further before bleeding out onto the dirt road.

It is my regret to inform our kingdom’s little ones that there will be no easter eggs this year.

Yam Shortage Sparks Emergency

A kingdom-wide yam shortage has sparked protests and the passing of emergency legislation by the Royal Council this week. A poor yam harvest has driven up the prices of the well loved vegetable, with the lucky few successful yam farmers selling them for up to 100,000 gold a piece in the markets of Luna.

Angry yam lovers from Britain and Vesper descended upon the fields of Skara Brae – a well known yam growing region – in huge mobs, threatening to overrun yam ranches and seize any of the crop they could find. During one incident it is believed that the son of a well respected Yam farmer was killed and a house burned before guardsman from Skara Brae could restore order.

In response to the unrest the Royal Council passed a bill limiting the amount that can be charged per yam, however it seems the markets of Luna are a law unto themselves and it is unknown if this has had any effect on yam prices.

Scarlet Von Trinsic Escapes

20130401guardsandthings1It is alleged that infamous thief, brigand, murderer, and traitorous collaborator Scarlet Von Trinsic has managed to escape during a routine transfer from the City of Trinsic to the Court of Truth in Yew.

Scarlet is due to stand trial for her crimes against the Kingdom and it’s people and the transfer was in preparation for the event. However it appears that several of her lackeys managed to acquire the uniforms of Yewish guardsmen and pose as the receiving party. The transfer documents they held also seemed to be authentic.

Where she is now is unknown but we can be sure she has plans to expand her criminal enterprise now that she is free from the confines of prison.

Mushroom Fish Discovered Near Cove

Scholars from the Lyceum made an unexpected visit to Cove this week amid rumours of a new kind of fish seen swimming just off the coast and apparently caught in nets. A cursory glance of the aquatic curiosity describes a fishy creature with a head like a large mushroom.

Responding to a suggestion from one of the locals to try eating the thing resulted in a salmon-like flesh that tasted vaguely of miniature mushroom. The scholars indicated that it was safe to eat.

A product of twisted wizadry? the merging of fungus and fish through alchemy? Who knows, but I have a visit planned so I can try one of these fish for myself.

Goblin party planned for April 15th at 8pm. Will the king make an appearance? Who knows.

Some yoos tinkin, “itnd dat a bad place ta go lookin?” Mees say it kinda safe kinda dangerous. But mees also say it worth it! Der bunches of nice stuff down der.

20130322pic1Ta get to da wispy place bees easy. Yoos take da humilty moongate den run over west to get to da entrance. Ifn yoos bees tuff yoos can fight da eyeballs and bad mongies, or yoos can do what mees do an run past dem, yoos safe once yoos go in.

Dis da fanciest part of da place. Lotz ob nice wisps float around and make noises at yoos. Mees tinkin dey live der but dey use ta share it with sumone cuz der lotz of tablez and chairs and tings. Where da udders go? Mees no kno. Mees tinkin dey mebe wizards, cus der spots look like dey bees testing magic tings and der bees no kitchen, and wizards tink dey all high an mighty cuz dey eat magic food, no need kitchen.

20130322pic2Goin thru yoos find nice book readin spots, sit an talkin spotz, and a nice virtue temple spot. Temple spot bees goos fer meetins mees tinkin. No Kitchens tho, so bring yoos own snacks. And der bees no stumps mees jus use da candle tings.

Da Ankh here looks nice, it got sparkles and eberyting, and yoos find a special wisp, himz red.

Some say wisps attack ebil persons but mees not seen dat, mebe it change.

Ifn yoos bees brave, sneeky, or silly yoos can go down to da next level. Dis level got lots of dead tings, ebil mages, and very mean wisps. But der cool stuff down here toos.

Dont tell dem mees say dis, but mees tink wizards bees messier den orcies! Mees tinkin sum da wisps and wizards go bad and da goos wisps force dem down in da bottom level and keep dem der, mebe dey got too messy.

First ting yoos find bees a big statue guarded by dos mean wisps. Dis statues bees of da first man is Sosaria. Mees like it here but mees mad too. Mees wanna see what da first lady and da first goblin looked like too! Mees tinkin dos humie scribblers need ta go down here and make a copy so dey can put one up in Britain, it do bees important mees tinkin.
