Pitmuck Derby Third and Final Leg Results

Cove, Trammel, Chesapeake (PaxLair Times) – May 18, 2015 – by Ashlynn – The goblins of Pitmuck held the third and final leg of the Pitmuck Derby yesterday in the ever serene and peaceful town of Cove. The course was a short one – a short race around the inside of the town finishing at the watchtower that overlooks the bay.

20150518pitmuckderby3_3Ten racers atop a variety of steeds participated: Murdock Redbone, Niva, Sparrow, Ivy Covedweller, Victor Speranza, Kailel Moonbow, Falbala, Sweet Touch, Nanoc, and myself.

The results were as follows:

  • 1st Place: Victor Speranza – racing the horse Untapable III
  • 2nd Place: Sweet Touch – racing the horse Ether
  • 3rd Place: Ivy Covedweller – racing the unicorn Starshine

Once again Victor manage to take first place also making him the overall winner across all three legs. His unusual victories make me suspect that there was some foul play involved – perhaps performance enhancing alchemicals or simply a bag of caltrops. During the third race my own horse fell victim to a sharp piece of metal on track.

Was Victor involved? Unfortunately I have no proof. But congratulations on his win!

PaxLair on the Eve of Creation in New Britannia

PaxLair, Novia, New Britannia (PaxLair Times) – April 29, 2015 – by Winfield – Governor Winfield just gave a speech to PaxLair residents and friends in New Britannia (Shroud of the Avatar) .  This is the eve of PaxLair being created in Novia as the first Player Owned Town.  Here is what he said:

My friends.

Tonight is the eve of a continuing journey that started long ago — the eve of a day when PaxLair becomes a new town in Novia. We continue our 17+ year journey into the [new] lands connected to our friends and new friends. We would not be here if it were not for our PaxLair veterans [in Old Britannia (Ultima Online)] and our new friends who understand what PaxLair means.

Our journey will last decades. We are patient. We enjoy helping others, humbly moving forward to help all with what we do and have. PaxLair is honored to be the first [player owned town launched]. Yet the “first” carries great responsibility and we do not take the responsibility lightly.

This realm is still being built — not just the mechanics, but the communities … and we are more about communities than the mechanics.

A Player Town is just that: a town. It is a place for people to live, work, thrive, and meet others. We are not a guild. We are a town and will be a town for all time here in Novia.

Boroughs [other Player Owned Towns (PoT) connected to PaxLair] will be joining PaxLair soon. And for this, we set a new idea and possibly a standard for many realms in how people can work together.

So the building of PaxLair is far from over. The cluster of boroughs and how that works is a next major step for us, while our most major step is to continue to work with all the PoT owners and the developers for the greater good.

I thank so many people every day, silently and in person. Mostly I thank two people who brought me here from 30 years ago: Richard Garriott and Tracy Hickman. I enjoyed what they both made long ago and I recently met them [personally] — I hope all of you meet them too.

That is why I have a smile on my face tonight, and a tear in my eye. I feel I have come home.

PaxLair Meeting: April 28, 2015 in the Town of Pike

  • Directions:  Head west of Covetous Dungeon entrance until you find a gypsy wagon and some benches surrounding a firepit. The meeting will be held there.

For those unaware Pike is a town that has recently been founded in the Mountains of Avarice. It consists of an underground town, a mountain entrance, and a camp of several gypsy wagons. Our meeting will be held outside.

The upcoming gypsy auction is also going to be hosted in Pike.

Mercenaries Attack Town of Pike

Solen Caves, Trammel, Chesapeake (PaxLair Times) – April 24, 2015 – by Ashlynn – A band of mercenaries believed to be associated with infamous outlaw Tyrius Zool attacked the gypsy town of Pike yesterday using strange mechanical constructs.

20150424intrusion3Several gypsy refugees from the village alerted the Royal Guard in Minoc. These gypsies described a band of sellswords accompanying several golem-like creatures modified for mining. Most of the gypsies fled in the chaos and sadly it is believed that self proclaimed “King” Sev is amongst those who made it to safety.

The Royal Guard responded by dispatching volunteers to investigate. Upon arrival they were immediately attacked by the sellswords – many of whom wore black gauntlets associated with a band of mercenaries in Zool’s employ.

It wasn’t long before the Royal Guard came across the digging machines themselves as well as the underground tunnel they had used to dig their way into Pike.

Following this sinister threat back to the source brought the volunteer militia to the Caves of the Solen where some kind of workshop was found along with more of the machines – some of which were inert.

The remaining mercenaries were swiftly defeated along with their lieutenant – a man going by the name of “Bloodbath Zach”. Along with a coded map and hundreds of ingots stamped with the Pike makers mark, a few of the digging machines were also recovered for use by the Royal Guard.

It is believed that the intended target was not Pike but instead Minoc – specifically the city bank and the well-equipped smithing workshop. It seems whoever was responsible for navigating underground was not equipped for such a difficult task and surfaced several miles short. It is also believed that these mercenaries had some sort of agreement with the Solen though communicating with those strange creatures could prove difficult.
